Thank You for Selecting USA FLOWERS

These pictures were taken at Longwood Botanical Gardens just south of Philadelphia PA and near the Delaware border. Longwood Gardens has both in door all year greenhouse and huge outside gardens with fountains and ponds. The gardens were donated by the Dupont family and are open 7 days aweek. Some of the pictures were taken in the southern New Jersey USA area.

The Longwood Gardens property was originally purchased from William Penn in 1700 by a fellow Quaker named George Pierce. Although it
started as a working farm, in 1798 Joshua and Samuel Pierce planted the first specimens of an arboretum. By 1850 they had amassed one of the finest collections of trees in the nation. Pierre du Pont purchased the property from the Pierce family in 1906 to save the arboretum from being sold for lumber. The property is surrounded by beautiful gardens and greenhouse. The best time to visit is in the Spring when the tulips are blooming.

A flower, also known as a bloom or blossom, is the reproductive structure found in flowering plants plants of the division Magnoliophyta, also called angiosperms). The flower's structure contains the plant's reproductive organs, and its function is to produce seeds. After fertilization, portions of the flower develop into a fruit containing the seeds. For the higher plants, seeds are the next generation, and serve as the primary means by which individuals of a species are dispersed across the landscape. The grouping of flowers on a plant is called the inflorescence.

In addition to serving as the reproductive organs of flowering plants, flowers have long been admired and used by humans, mainly to beautify their environment but also as a source of food.
